How Can We Catergorize Fanfiction?

Fanfiction as a genre is derivative of an original work -- it's challenging to give fanfiction genre-defining boundaries because it pulls from every conceivable literary genre. Instead, it's easier to catergorize fanfiction as transformative, building off an existing genre.Fanfiction's genre changes to suit the fandom it is being written for -- a fanfic about Star Wars will follow different narrative rules than a fanfic written for Pokémon. Despite the endless genres for fanfiction to come from, there are many conventions created by fanfiction communities throughout the years, with unique terms and tropes. Let's explore a few and identify how the women in the community use these tropes!
